Experimental results were used to model the alginate solutions characteristics. The findings suggest that alginate solutions undergo shear-thinning effects with increasing shear rates. It is also possible to BMS-777607 in vivo observe that its loss modulus is higher than the storage modulus ones being both modulus dependent upon the frequency, which is a

typical characteristic of dilute solutions. (C) 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 113: 3866-3871, 2009″
“Despite recognition of the benefits of involving consumers in their own treatment, there is little research on consumer participation in drug treatment. This paper focuses on clients who use illicit substances and the role of consumer participation in their self-reported satisfaction with their drug treatment and sense of goal achievement in that treatment. As part of a secondary analysis, the data from 492 participants who had previously SIS3 in vitro or who were currently engaged

in drug treatment were analysed to assess the importance of consumer participation in drug treatment. Participants who had a history of opiate or psychostimulant use were recruited at various treatment services and health care facilities for drug users located in five urban and rural/regional sites in Australia. They were asked to complete an interviewer-assisted questionnaire assessing a range of variables including five questions about consumer participation. Findings from this study illustrate that clients’ opportunity to participate in drug treatment is independently associated with greater satisfaction with drug treatment and a greater sense of achievement of treatment goals. This research find more provides evidence to support the importance of consumer activity in drug treatment and should encourage drug treatment programs to afford

clients appropriate levels of consumer participation. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved.”
“Background: The increase in the number of individuals with an unhealthily high body weight is particularly relevant in the United States. Obesity (body mass index >= 30 kg/m(2)) is a well-documented risk factor for the development of osteoarthritis. Furthermore, an increased prevalence of total knee arthroplasty in obese individuals has been observed in the last decades. The primary aim of this systematic literature review was to determine whether obesity has a negative influence on outcome after primary total knee arthroplasty.

Methods: A search of the literature was performed, and studies comparing the outcome of total knee arthroplasty in different weight groups were included. The methodology of the included studies was scored according to the Cochrane guidelines. Data extraction and pooling were performed. The weighted mean difference for continuous data and the weighted odds ratio for dichotomous variables were calculated. Heterogeneity was calculated with use of the 12 statistic.

Results: After consensus was reached, twenty studies were included in the data analysis.
