Modified electrodes based on carbon, when used in conjunction with electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and square wave voltammetry (SWV), offer a highly effective and user-friendly approach. This results in a rapid and simple control method, whilst concurrently protecting human health from drug residue. The academic field of prosthetics and orthotics (P&O) has seen a substantial increase in scientific studies in recent years, fueled by its development. Nevertheless, the quality of published research, especially randomized controlled trials, does not always reach the desired level of acceptability. In light of the above, this research aimed to evaluate the quality of methodology and reporting in randomized controlled trials on Perinatal and Obstetrics in Iran, to determine areas needing attention.
The electronic databases PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and the Physiotherapy Evidence Database were systematically examined for relevant articles from January 1, 2000, through July 15, 2022. In order to ascertain the methodological quality of the incorporated studies, the Cochrane risk of bias tool was applied. The Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) 2010 checklist was also used to determine the quality of reporting for the included studies.
Our final analysis incorporated 35 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published between 2007 and 2021. The methodological quality of 18 RCTs was found wanting, in contrast with the excellent quality of 7 studies and the satisfactory quality exhibited by 10. The median reporting quality of RCTs, following CONSORT standards, exhibited a value of 18 (interquartile range of 13–245) out of 35. Statistical analysis of the relationship between CONSORT score and publication year demonstrated a moderate correlation for the included RCTs. Even so, there was a slight correlation between CONSORT scores and the impact factors of the publications.
The methodological and reporting quality of RCTs within the Iranian P&O field was not deemed up to the optimal standard. This research effort investigates the presence of TORCH infections in a child characterized by bilateral cataracts and deafness, and subsequently reports on the ToRCH serology screening (Toxoplasma gondii [TOX], rubella [RV], cytomegalovirus [CMV], and herpes simplex virus [HSV I/II]) for children with both conditions.
The study encompassed cases exhibiting a clear clinical history of congenital cataracts and congenital deafness. AIIMS Bhubaneswar admitted 18 children with bilateral cataracts and 12 children with bilateral deafness for cataract surgery and cochlear implantation, respectively. A sequential analysis of IgG/IgM antibodies against TORCH agents was performed qualitatively and quantitatively on sera collected from all children.
Every patient suffering from cataract and deafness had antibodies against the torch panel, specifically anti-IgG antibodies. Of the bilateral cataract children studied, 17 exhibited the presence of anti-CMV IgG, alongside 11 out of 12 bilateral deaf children. There was a substantial and statistically significant increase in the prevalence of anti-CMV IgG antibodies. For the cataract group, 94.44% of patients showed a positive Anti-CMV IgG status, in contrast to the deafness group where 91.66% exhibited a similar positive result. Additionally, 777% of patients with cataracts and 75% of those with deafness tested positive for anti-RV IgG antibodies. In bilateral cataract cases with seropositive IgGalone, Cytomegalovirus (CMV) was the most frequent cause (94.44%, 17 of 18 patients), followed by Rhinovirus (RV) (77.78%, 14 of 18 patients), Human Herpes Virus 1 (HSV1) (27.78%, 5 of 18 patients), Toxoplasma (TOX) (27.78%, 5 of 18 patients), and Human Herpes Virus 2 (HSV2) (16.67%, 3 of 18 patients).
